Asbestos
All Department of Buildings submissions require asbestos documentation for approval and almost all scopes of work require testing to be performed by a certified asbestos investigator. The following stipulations allow your project to be exempt from asbestos testing:
- Physical work is not being performed
- Existing building materials are not being disturbed
- The work is to alter a building constructed on or after April 1, 1987
All other applications filed with the DOB require that a certified asbestos investigator collect and test samples of material for asbestos. If there is asbestos present, it must be removed and a Department of Environmental Protection sign-off must be provided to the DOB before a work permit can be obtained.
If you require our assistance to determine if your project requires testing, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@kmaofny.com or call us at (212) 563-6760. We’ll be glad to help.
