Fire Department Roof Access

Did you know that in certain buildings, your roof may need to be accessible for Fire Department personnel using a ladder apparatus? Access should be provided to the flat roof of every building that is 100 feet or less in height. The Fire Department will be accessing the roof from the street or open area at the front of the building and should have appropriate clearances at roof level, which includes:

– Unobstructed areas at the roof perimeter for the Fire Department to access the roof from a ladder apparatus.
– A clear horizontal path that is 6 feet wide shall be provided from the front to the rear of the roof and from one side to the other.
